This short video is intended to be an upbeat, quirky display of how the Cleaning Lady would interact with and use the items on her trolley. I took inspiration from classic cleaning commercials and their obvious ways of promoting products, and paired this with the iconic theme song from 70s TV show, 'Terry and June' to act as a comforting reference for her generation.

This broom is inspired by the Harpy Eagle, where the bristles are replaced with multi-purpose eagle features; the talons collect the larger pieces of rubbish whilst the feathers in-between work as a filter system for the finer pieces. Positioned at the correct angle to leave your floor spick and span.
Sculpted using Supersculpy and Monster Clay.
Cast in Casting resin with armature wire embedded in before it cures
Fabricated using: Broom handle, wooden block (shaped, sanded, painted and varnished), feathers, acrylic paint, uhu glue
Along with Talon broom, the Silkie Chicken feather duster also has multiple features to make it a functional, household essential. The whole body removes dust, with the elongated neck allowing you to reach the higher, more difficult areas. The legs are bound together to create a sturdy handle, with flexible claws so that they can bend onto the trolley handle or hooks. The beak is naturally curved so that the duster could be hung from either the face, or the claws.
Legs and claws were sculpted in Supersculpy and Monster Clay, then moulded and cast In Sil-Skin 10 Silicone with a wire armature inside to ensure flexibility
Created using: Wire, modelling foam, supersculpy, faux fur fabric, fabric lining, epoxy glue, miliput, ribbon, acrylic and oil paints
I wanted to portray an alternative reality that normalises the use of animal body parts in our day to day lives, subtly changing the graphics in order to warp our perception of well known cleaning products. ‘Fairy Liquid’, for example, becomes ‘Hairy Liquid’; by replacing the trademark baby  in a nappy logo with a chimp and the green detergent droplet with lock of hair; the inside of the bottle is also filled with hair that we can assume is from a chimp.

A few images of the trolley in the original location, taken in a physical place so that I could play around with composition and lighting, before photoshopping the walls to make it look like a believable, dirty motel. The overall environment had to be created digitally due the pandemic.
